MISSION STATEMENT

The Police Department of Southern Shores is committed to being a leading community-oriented department.

Our goal as a Community Police Department is to ensure that police and the community share the responsibility for finding workable solutions to problems that detract from community safety and security.

ORGANIZATION
The Police Department consists of the Office of the Chief of Police, Administrative and Uniform and Divisions.
The Chief of Police is appointed by and directly answerable to the Town Manager. He is the Chief Executive Officer of the Department and the final departmental authority in all matters of policy, operations and discipline, subject to any grievance and/or appeals process provided by the Town Policy.
RESPONSIBILITIES

To organize the resources needed to reduce crime and solve neighborhood problems.

To conduct public education programs on crime prevention.

To keep continuous contact with the citizens groups operating within communities and involve them in planning, designing, and evaluating community crime prevention programs.

To patrol the streets to strengthen lines of communication with citizens and prevent crime and delinquency.

To receive complaints and requests for service from residents.

To attend community watch groups and offer services.

To attend school advisory councils in assigned areas.

To investigate crimes.

To assist with written crime prevention material for community newsletters.

It is our goal for you, the citizen, and our officers to be on a first name basis and for us to work together to meet the needs of our community.
